Bed Bugs Eradication

WHAT ARE BED BUGS?

Attracted by carbon dioxide, Bed bugs gravite towards sleeping areas. They are small and adept at hiding in various spaces, such as mattress pads, box springs, and drawers. Thriving in temperatures ranging from 21 to 28 degrees Celsius, they can live up to a year and lay up to 400 eggs in that time. Found in a variety of settings, including homes, hotels, schools, and hospitals, bed bugs are a pervasive pest.

Unlike lice, bed bugs do not reside on their hosts but rather hide in furniture and walls, emerging to feed when their hosts are at rest. When conducting inspections, it's crucial to thoroughly check key areas including mattresses, box springs, headboards, furniture, electrical fixtures, and other hiding spots. Don't let bed bugs disrupt your peace of mind—know where to look and how to address them.

Key areas to consider are:

  • Mattress, including seams and buttons, tags and handles
  • Box spring, including plastic guards. Remove the material covering the underside and check the wood frame.
  • Headboard, bed frame and hollow caster legs
  • Beside furniture, drawers and cupboards
  • Other furniture, along seams, buttons and joints. Furniture should be turned over to inspect the underside.
  • Behind electrical switch plates and receptacles
  • Telephones, clock radios and televisions
  • Under loose wallpaper, picture frames, mirrors, blinds, curtains and books

HOW TO IDENTIFY BED BUGS

Measuring about 10 mm in length, oval-shaped bed bugs are initially brown but turn red after feeding on human or animal blood. Unlike other pests, they don't jump or fly, and struggle to climb smooth, polished surfaces. The eggs of a bed bug are white and barely visible to the naked eye.

TREATMENT

For those dealing with bed bug concerns in Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon, Salmon Arm, or nearby areas, Helping Hands offers effective thermal treatments to tackle these pests. It's important that the treatment setup is meticulously performed for best results, making sure that heat reaches every corner of the room. This precision is necessary as any surviving pregnant female bed bug could potentially restart the infestation cycle, even necessitating a fresh start if necessary.

To reach hidden spaces, the heaters need to be maintained for an extended period. After our recommended 24-hour treatment cycle, every aspect of the room, including inside walls and beneath baseboards, will have reached the critical temperature, effectively addressing the issue.

You can trust Helping Hands' meticulous team to handle the cleanup process with the utmost attention to detail. Our expertise and unwavering dedication make us the premier option for bed bug cleanup and eradication in Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon, Salmon Arm, Merritt, and surrounding areas.
